The Inland Revenue Department has published the newest list of unclaimed money it is holding, which is free to claim for those on it.

According to the Unclaimed Monies Act 1971, any monies that are left untouched for more than six years is required to be handed to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD). Subsequently, the IRD periodically publishes a list of those eligible to collect money from these actions.
According to an IRD media release, the current list contains 15,200 names, which aggregate to a total of $14,427,789. Seemingly there is a wide range of amounts behind each name, varying from $100 to over $230,000.

The origins of the money are varied with cheques, wages and insurance proceeds apparently being common. It is stressed by the IRD that the money held has no connection to tax refunds and is in no way to be thought of as tax refunds.
