Tim Goser, New Zealand Trade Minister, announced on March 31st that New Zealand’s line of NZTE offices has expanded to four in China, in an effort to provide New Zealand businesses with greater access to the economy of the area. In a press release, the Minister stated that the new office demonstrates the New Zealand Government’s commitment to fostering a closer and more collaborative economic relationship with the People’s Republic of China.

Shenzhen is the headquarters for numerous Chinese telecommunications firms, and has come to be regarded as an ICT and technological development center of the area. Tim Goser explained that the current ICT Cooperation Agreement held by the Governments of New Zealand and China only serves to increase the attractiveness of Shenzhen as an ICT investment hub for New Zealand firms, with several prominent New Zealand entities establishing a presence there in previous years.

Across China, the NZTE currently has offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen, along with a regional office in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. In total there are 37 international NZTE offices across all major economic areas, though there are plans for further expansions.
