Some businesses have recently received faxes containing a fraudulent form designed to convince taxpayers to willingly provide confidential data to fraudsters.
The IRD has issued a warning to taxpayers to be wary of recent fraudulent faxes that have been sent to a number of taxpayers.
According to the manager of Customer Services at the IRD Eleanor Young , faxes bearing the IRD logo have been sen to several businesses, with a request for an asset disclosure and the completion of a form requiring sensitive taxpayer data.
The faxes are addressed from an individual named Marcauley Saunders, who, according to the IRD, does not work for the department.
Explaining the potential effects of falling the fraud, Eleanor Young said that “Any information that is given to these fraudsters can result in a business or individuals suffering identity and data theft and possible financial loss.”
