Closer to the December Official Cash Rate (OCR) decision a progressively larger number of analysts are predicting a dramatic drop.
While argument may arise around exactly how much Reserve Bank Governor Alan Bollard will cut the OCR, no analysts are willing to vouch for any figure lower than 100 basis points, bringing the OCR to at least 5.5%.
Predictions for the December OCR cut range realistically between 100 to 200 basis points, with supporters on either side of the spectrum.

According to statements made by Reserve Bank Governor, Alan Bollard, the Reserve Bank is talking to commercial banks about possible new funding and liquidity standards.
While releasing the bi-annual Financial Stability Report, Alan Bollard disclosed the proposed new policy which is aimed at creating incentives for banks to diversify their reliance on funding sources. According to predictions made by ANZ economists, Reserve Bank governor Alan Bollard will cut the New Zealand Official Cash Rate (OCR) by 75 points at the next Reserve Bank meeting, on the 4th of December.
